Most art is bought to fill a wall. The pieces people actually love are the ones that are about something — a face they know, a place they've been, a moment they'd keep if they could.

Art like that has always been expensive and slow. Commissioning a portrait means finding an artist, waiting weeks, and paying enough that most people never seriously consider it. So they don't. They buy something decorative instead, and the wall gets filled but nothing on it means very much.

We think that's the wrong way round. The thing that makes a piece worth hanging is the thing that costs the most to get.

So we set out to make personal art ordinary

Not cheaper art — personal art, at a price that doesn't need thinking about for a fortnight.

You upload your own photographs. You pick a house style — each one developed here for a particular kind of subject, built around what makes it worth looking at. A set of portraits comes back in about fifteen seconds, and you choose the one you like.

Then, before anything is charged, you see it at the size and in the frame you've chosen, drawn to scale. If it isn't right, you haven't paid, and you can try again as many times as you like.

Nothing is charged until you approve a portrait you have actually seen. That is the whole promise, and everything else here is built to keep it.

What you get

A framed print, made properly. Giclée-printed on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Art — a heavyweight fine-art paper. A real wood frame, 20mm face, in eight colours; the natural finish is a high-quality oak-effect laminate. Acrylic glaze, lighter than glass and it survives the post. An optional conservation-grade mount, acid free, so it won't discolour with age. A cobra hook, fitted: it arrives ready to hang.

Printed and framed at a press near you, and posted. Days, not weeks.

Where we are

Print & Pane is designed and run from a studio on the south coast of Dorset. The styles are developed here — written, tested and judged against a rubric, one at a time, until they're worth selling. The printing happens at a professional press near you, which is why it arrives quickly and without import charges.

About the process

We use AI to compose your portrait, and we say so plainly.

It's worth understanding what that does and doesn't mean. Your portrait is made from your own photographs, in a style we developed and tested ourselves. It isn't a filter, and it isn't a template with your pet dropped into it — no two are alike, because no two photographs are.
